I Want Your Sex is a big top ten hit single, and first single from George Michael's debut solo album, Faith. Although the album was not released until many months afterwards, the single entered the top 40 on June 20, 1987, and was originally a track from the soundtrack to the 1987 blockbuster movie Beverly Hills Cop II.

The song was the subject of controversy because of its lyrical content. ,Some claimed that the song encouraged younger people to be involved in such inappropriate activity. Some radio stations refused to play the song earlier than around 9:00 p.m. when younger people are likely in bed by that time, while other radio stations had banned the song completely. Some radio stations in Canada - including CHOZ-FM in Newfoundland - did play the song during the daytime. Regardless, single sales outperformed radio airplay and the single peaked at #2 by August 1987.

The song's title was only acknowledged on American Top 40 four times. These shows aired on June 20 and 27, 1987, and July 4, 1987, and on the Top 100 of 1987, aired on January 2, 1988.

During the Shadoe Stevens era, there were no "Flashback" segments from 1987 whenever this song was in the top 5 during its chart run.
